Chacchoben Mayan Ruins are one of my favorite ones I have ever visited. Probably as nice as Ek-Balam. It is not because they are very impressive. However, as there is not that much tourism, you can see plenty of wildlife. I went with my girlfriend and we could even see the monkeys around us.

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins, not the Village

30 minutes away from the Mayan ruins, there is a village called Chacchoben as well. Why am I saying this? Well, we went by car, so we used Google Maps. And Google Maps was showing us the way to the village.

We took some nice pictures at their park. There is not really anything to do. They have kind of a cenote or lake. However it is very polluted, you can’t swim there.

Chacchoben Mayan Ruins Location

Anyway, taking back the ruins, if you decide to take a tour, you don’t have to worry about this. I just mentioned it for the ones that are renting a car and probably time is limited. Because as we were taking pictures, other lost tourists arrived and asked us about the Archeological Site’s location.

Chacchoben is located in Carretera Federal, 307 Via Carta Mérida, Pedro Antonio Santos – Chunhuhub, Chetumal, Q.R. I leave the exact location here, so you can drive directly there.

Entrance Price and Times

The ruins open Monday to Sunday from 08:00 to 17:00. Just be careful because the last entrance is at 16:30. Once you enter you can rent devices to take a tour in different languages. There are some local guides as well.

The entrance is $65 pesos, which means it is around 4 to 5 US Dollars. As every Archeological site in Mexico, if you are studying in Mexico, show your institution id, and you can get in for free!

Chacchoben for Cruise Passengers

I will make this quick because I get asked this by a lot of cruise passengers. Take a tour. The tour companies know have measured any delay or situation that can happen. So, you should better just book a tour. I recommend Costa Maya Online, just a friend’s agency.
